چکیده

How to maximize the efficiency of X-ray Talbot interferometry (XTI) is discussed for X-ray phase imaging. Shape parameters of an amplitude grating used in XTI strongly affect the efficiency. We calculated efficiencies assuming rectangular and trapezoidal patterns for an absorption grating. As a result, a rectangular absorption grating of a duty ratio of 1:1 is optimal. But, a trapezoidal pattern can also provide sufficient efficiency and particularly when the grating line width is shorter than the groove width, which is the condition that a trapezoidal pattern provides higher efficiency than that by a rectangular pattern.

An electron Talbot interferometer

The Talbot effect [1], in which a wave imprinted with transverse periodicity reconstructs itself at regular intervals, is a diffraction phenomenon that occurs in many physical systems. Here we present the first observation of the Talbot effect for electron de Broglie waves behind a nanofabricated transmission grating. This was thought to be difficult because of Coulomb interactions between elec...

Theory of oblique and grazing incidence Talbot‑Lau interferometers and demonstration in a compact source x‑ray reflective interferometer

With the advent of Talbot-Lau interferometers for x-ray phase-contrast imaging, oblique and grazing incidence configurations are now used in the pursuit of sub-micron grating periods and high sensitivity. Here we address the question whether interferometers having oblique incident beams behave in the same way as the well-understood normal incidence ones, particularly when the grating planes are...

Phase Imaging with an X-ray Talbot Interferometer

X-ray Talbot interferometry (XTI) is described as a novel phase-sensitive X-ray imaging method. XTI uses two transmission gratings, and therefore in principle it functions with cone-beam X-rays of a broad energy band width, allowing its instrumentation with a compact X-ray source. Because an amplitude transmission grating is needed, X-ray lithography and electrochemical gold plating were employ...

X-ray phase-contrast computed tomography visualizes the microstructure and degradation profile of implanted biodegradable scaffolds after spinal cord injury

Tissue engineering strategies for spinal cord repair are a primary focus of translational medicine after spinal cord injury (SCI). Many tissue engineering strategies employ three-dimensional scaffolds, which are made of biodegradable materials and have microstructure incorporated with viable cells and bioactive molecules to promote new tissue generation and functional recovery after SCI. It is ...

Unique interpretation of Talbot Bands and Fourier domain white light interferometry.

A theoretical model is developed to interpret the output of the diffraction grating spectrometer used to analyze the channelled spectrum produced by a low coherence interferometer set-up. This model leads to an unique interpretation which covers both cases (i) of Talbot bands and (ii) of a Michelson interferometer used in most spectral interferometry set-ups for sensing as well as for Fourier d...
